Scope of Practice

I am a Nurse Psychotherapist (RN, Psychotherapist) which means I am a Registered Nurse with additional training in various counselling/therapy modalities. I am licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Who says Nurses can practice Psychotherapy and the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy?

The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) all recognize the broad and intensive training of Nurses, along with five other Regulated Health Professionals, such as Social Workers, and as such are in agreement that Nurses can practice psychotherapy and the controlled act of psychotherapy. Because Nurses are already regulated by, and licensed with, the College of Nurses of Ontario they are not required to be licensed with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

“Nursing is one of the fine arts: I had almost said ‘the finest of fine arts.’”

- Florence Nightingale, founder of modern Nursing

As a Nurse Psychotherapist I will:

  • Listen - listening is one of the cornerstones of my practice. It’s all about you.

  • Hold you in a safe space of non-judgement and compassion.

  • Build a therapeutic relationship built on trust, honesty and transparency

  • Guide you to acceptance of your feelings, yourself and your experience

  • Guide you to your inner wisdom and connection with life-affirming action and resources

  • Teach you how to regulate your Nervous System

  • Guide you to discover the limiting ideas and beliefs you have and help you choose new ones

  • Help you to recognize, and connect again with, your wellbeing, power, worth and peace and so much more!
